High School Parent Newsletter 2023-2024

alcoholHigh Schoolparentingteenagersteens

Parenting is an important job. Caring adults can be powerful role models, inspiring teens to pursue life’s hopes and dreams. At the same time, parenting requires “homework.” The reality is, whether curiosity, anxiety, depression, stress, or another reason, all adolescents are at risk of substance use. Many teens are unaware of the real risks of dependency, school problems, legal, health, and other consequences. Some struggle with mental health challenges. Others don’t know what to do with expectations they perceive around them, that are about them.  While there is no test, your assignment is to read this newsletter on what parents of teenagers should know about the Power of Choice High School campaign. What you don’t know can hurt you. So know what’s happening locally to help prevent use, and also to reduce repeated use and risk of harm for teens who want to quit.
